Rod Bono of Fairway Outdoor Advertising was presented with the Peaceful Presence Award by the Religious Coalition for a Nonviolent Durham. The award, which honors individuals who promote peace and public safety, recognizes Bono's work with the Durham Gun Safety Team. The announcement was made today by Paul Hickman, general manager of Fairway.
Since 2004, Bono has actively participated with the Durham Gun Safety Team. His involvement has led to several Fairway-supported public service campaigns for the community program. In addition to securing donated advertising space, he has organized and sponsored several Durham Gun Safety Team events.
"We are excited that Rod has been honored with this community award," said Hickman. "As a good corporate citizen, Fairway encourages all employees to get involved with the communities we serve."
Founded in 1992, the Religious Coalition for a Nonviolent Durham promotes the sanctity of life and acts to prevent and rectify the injustice of violence. The Peaceful Presence Award has existed for the past five years and was last presented to the Victim and Witness Services Unit of the Durham Police Department.
"We are pleased to present this award to Rod Bono," said Marsha Owen, outreach coordinator for the Religious Coalition for a Nonviolent Durham. "Anyone who knows Mr. Bono quickly realizes his deep concern for the children and community of Durham."
