Fairway Outdoor Advertising Donates to the Durham County Prepared Food Tax Referendum

October 14, 2008

Fairway Outdoor Advertising has donated an advertising package worth $28,650 to the Durham County Prepared Food Tax referendum. A series of billboard posters and rotary bulletins began running on Sept. 8 in the Durham community and will continue through Election Day. The announcement was made today by Paul Hickman, general manager of Fairway.

Through the referendum, Durham voters will decide whether the county may levy a 1 percent tax on meals prepared by restaurants, banquets and catering companies. The proceeds from the proposed tax would be used to finance the construction and upkeep of select capital projects throughout Durham.

“Fairway believes in supporting the Durham community and its leadership,” said Hickman. “There has been a strong desire by Durham’s community leaders to educate the public about this proposed referendum and as a good corporate citizen, Fairway seeks to contribute its resources to this great community cause.”

The projects benefiting from the proposed tax include cultural and recreational facilities and trails. Proceeds will also assist with community cleanups, workforce training and destination marketing.
